A rejuvenated United side takes on Stoke-Preview

Mark Hughes's Potters face the Champions of England

The day at Stoke upon Trent in England could be the very first day when Robin van Persie,Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata start together for Manchester United. The trio did play their parts during United's 2-0 win against Cardiff but only two of the three talismans could play together. The signing of Juan Mata has reinvigorated United's ailing midfield and David Moyes' side has got the first glimpse of genuine creativity since the Scotsman's arrival. But,as far as Stoke City are concerned, things have not been exceptionally good for them. The men in red and white have managed to accumulate just a single point in their last 5 Premier League outings but the thing which they quite rightly, have showcased well is team spirit and resiliency. They did coerce United to toil hard during the reserve fixture at Old Trafford, which United won 3-2 but this time around, there's something else hanging in the atmosphere.Let's take a look at what the game has in store for us-

Team News

Steven N'Zonzi and Nemanja Vidic are still serving their bans and are set to miss out.Stoke will be solemnly missing the long term absentees like Robert Huth,Matthew Etherington and Andy Wilkinson, especially in a game as big as this one.The visitors in Red will miss Michael Carrick, who is out following an ankle problem which emerged during United's marathon game against Sunderland. And also Nani, who is out due to a thigh problem. But another good news for United is that summer signing Marouane Fellaini looks set to be given some match time after undergoing a wrist surgery.

Expected Line-ups

Stoke: Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross, Wilson, Pieters; Odemwingie, Palacios, Whelan, Assaidi; Ireland, Crouch
Man U: De Gea; Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Evra; Jones, Cleverley; Mata, Rooney, Januzaj; Van Persie

Predictions

I don't think Stoke will demand something extra out of United abilities and the Van-Roo-Mata trio will fire

I'll predict a 2-0 win for ManUtd

All eyes on Cabaye as Psg take on Bordeaux

It's a near season decider for both the teams

It's Psg vs Bordeaux at the Parc Des Princes.

Parisiens look to get back on track after loss to Montpeiller and draw against Guingamp. With chances going begging in each game Laurent Blanc's side needs to regroup quickly as there not left with much of time with Monaco only 3 points behind them. With new signing of Cabaye there goes a lot of confidence in the team as he single-handedly can do wonders and can win a match for any side on  any day. While,Bordeaux would love to pile up pressure on their former manager Blanc and stun the home side. Bordeaux also need to get consistency back as they won only 1 of their last 4 league games but they were outstanding last Sunday when they defeated ASSE 2-0.  .

This is also a must win game for both teams as it can be called as a position decider match of the season for both the teams.

If Psg lose and Monaco win they will be same points and if they win they will be  guaranteed   3 points ahead of Monaco(If Monaco lose lead would be extended to 6 points)   .If Bordeaux win they will jump to the 5th place or 4th place (if they win by a margin of 3 goals or more)  in the table(they are now currently  7th with 31 points) for a day or so.

Parisiens a have not won against  Bordeaux on their home ground since 2010 and have won only 4 of the last 10 games versus their stiff opponents

In the reverse fixture Psg won 2-0.Goals were scored by Matuidi  and Lucas Mora.

Team News

Psg will walk into the ground with the addition of Cabaye in their squad that makes their line up look more threatening  and dangerous.
Veratti is suspended for this game.
Jallet has a knee injury and Rabiot is also out with injury. These 2 players will be out for at least a month.
Lavezzi has a groin injury and is doubtful.
Most probably,Silva will return after being out for 2 matches with a twisted ankle.
On the other hand,Bordeaux striker Diabate is out with a knee injury & Horau has been sidelined following  a thigh problem.
Defender Matthieu has a calf injury and he is also on the sidelines for Bordeaux.
Rolan and Jussie are both doubtful with hamstring and elbow injuries respectively. But Rolan is expected to start as he is recovering quickly.

Expected Line-ups

Psg(4-4-2): Sirigu;Silva,Alex,Van der Wiel,Maxwell;Veratti,Matuidi,Thiago Motta,Cabaye;Ibrahimovic,Cavani.

Bordeaux(4-4-2):Carrasso;Sane,Savic,Orban,Mariano;Guemo,Sertic,Obraniak,Belay;Saviet,Rolan

Predictions

Psg are favorites but according to the form of both teams anything can happen and the game will present Bordeaux with an opportunity to retain their bid to qualify for the next season's Champions League. While,Psg need to win to maintain their lead over Monaco as they face them next Sunday

I predict a 2-1 win for Parisiens.

City take Spurs apart,again

Tim Sherwood's Tottenham get ripped apart at White Hart Lane

It was the same old tale of two cities repeating itself at White Hart Lane in London after Manchester City once again proved, why they are the team to beat this season. After putting 5 past 10 men Tottenham,City went top of the table and exhibited an ominous strength of character and ruthlessness.

City needed a point to reach the pinnacle of the League table, after Arsenal were denied their 3 points on being held to a 2-2 draw against Southampton and after Danny Rose's sending off after 50 minutes the outcome of the game was very much decided. But,the worrying part of City's trip to North London was the injury sustained by spearhead Sergio Aguero, who was almost impossible to stop yesterday for the Spurs defence.

Sergio Aguero himself opened the scoring early in the first half to hand City an early and a well deserved lead.Yaya Toure doubled the advantage after converting from the part following a straight red card to Danny Rose ,who had made a professional foul on the clean through Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian himself added the third for the Citizens but Spurs did show some resiliency on pulling one back through Etienne Capoue.Although,Spurs did play equally well in the second half but the referee's decision to send off Danny Rose had obscured their slender chances of winning.City's latest outcast Stefan Jovetic scored his first League goal since joining the Noisy Neighbors the previous summer and later ,Vincent Kompany hammered in the final nail in coffin in the 89th minute to finally silence the Spurs fans at a jam packed White Hart Lane.

The convincing victory and a recent run of opposition ridiculing performances have truly indicated the rise to prominence for City and if you ask me who are the favorites to win title this season.I'll say "Manchester City"

Spurs Ready For City's Challenge

Two of the in-form sides in the EPL - Tottemham and Manchester City will clash at the White Hart Lane tonight. While Spurs look to keep their hopes of Champions League alive, City would look forward to keep pressure on the league leaders- Arsenal.

Manchester City would be traveling to White Hart Lane on Wednesday unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions and having scored 22 goals in their last five games. But Manuel Pellegrini's side would have to maintain their blistering pace to keep in touch with the leaders, Arsenal.

Fifth-placed Tottenham should pose a stern test for City as improving significantly under the new boss- Tim Sherwood who replaced the sacked Andre Villas-Boas in December. Under the new boss, Spurs have won five of their six league matches and would be looking forward to avenge their 6-0 loss which they suffered against City in November.

Christian Eriksen-

"Hopefully we can put it right now. Every teammate wants to be 110 percent for this game. Everyone knows that you have to be on your toes when you are playing against City, and specially in this season. We have to be on our top level and that is what we have to achieve".

Spurs have won their four Premier League matches under Sherwood and would be looking forward to continue their winning streak in the league. Former Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has enjoyed a new lease of life after AVB left the side and scoring six goals in eight matches with Sherwood at the helm. The Spurs beat City in the last season with a score of 3-1 at home.

Team News-

Manchester City- Hart, Kolarov, Demichelis, Kompany, Zabaleta, Silva, Toure, Fernandhino, Navas, Aguero, Negredo

Tottenham Hotspur- Lloris, Vertonghen, Chiriches, Dawson, Walker, Bentaleb, Dembele, Chadli, Eriksen, Lennon, Adebayor

Prediction-

Though Spurs have been playing much better under the new boss Sherwood, we can not ignore the performance of City in the league and in other competitions also. So, I would predict a 3-1 easy victory for City.

Sturridge apologizes for Rodgers spat

Daniel Sturridge was involved in a spat with Brendan Rodgers yesterday
Why so?

After Sturridge nearly single-handedly tore Everton to shreds at Anfield yesterday,The 24 year old Englishman was involved in a highly exaggerated verbal spat with manager Brendan Rodgers. And after putting 2 goals past Tim Howard,Sturridge skied a spot-kick which infuriated fellow team-mates and the fans. And on another occasion,he was evidently going for goal himself even when teammates Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling lay unmarked in the box.Luis Suarez went livid on seeing his selfishness and gestured towards the Liverpool bench to take him off.And the decision to replace him came sooner than expected but while trotting off towards the bench ,he was involved in a little spat with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who later claimed that he'll be fine and that was Ok.

After the game concluded as a big 4-0 derby debacle for Everton,Daniel Sturridge apologized to BT Sport saying that he was disappointed on missing the penalty which could've ensured the 3 goals for him.
‘I didn't react in any way (to Rodgers) when I came off, I was just disappointed in how I took the penalty. But it's not about myself. It's about the boys in the team.’
Not only to Rodgers ,but Sturridge also apologized to his fellow team-mates for his self-fishness and very well known inability to pass it to others.

And later,Rodgers explained that he had no intentions to harm the feelings of the 24 year old but only wanted to "shore the game up" and even stated that Sturridge did a commendable job on the pitch. He also explained that he wants his Liverpool players to maintain their code of conduct themselves.

The game was a memorable one for the Liverpool who had no mercy in their hearts for bitter rivals Everton, who were rather clearly outplayed in a packed Anfield stadium.Stevie Gerrard opened the scoring for Liverpool after meeting a Suarez corner in the 21st minute.

Sturridge and Suarez celebrate

The Reds doubled their lead in the 33rd minute after Philippe Coutinho put Sturridge in on goal and the Englishman made no mistake in putting away the second.Things bettered even further for Liverpool after Sturridge received a well executed lob ball from Kolo Toure and finished it sublimely by chipping the ball over Tim Howard and into the back of the net.The circumstances turned bad to worse for Everton after Luis Suarez latched onto a slack miscued Phil Jagielka pass and ran straight to Howard and slotted the 4th one home to earn Liverpool a well deserved 4-0 victory which will be remembered sweetly until the next few years.

Magpies To Sell Star Midfielder To PSG

Newcastle United have agreed to sell French international midfielder Yohan Cabaye to French champions Paris Saint Germain according to British media. PSG gave a offer of $23.1 million for the French international. Cabaye has reportedly traveled  to Paris to go for a medical test, missing the match against Norwich City. On asking that can he retain the midfielder Newcatle United boss Alan Pardew answered "No, I'm not confident, and I don't think any team not in a Champions League position or fighting for a Champions League position could be" .

De Jong Close to Newcastle Deal

As Yohan Cabaye is going out of the hands, Newcastle are close to sign Borrusia Moen'gladbach striker Luuk De Jong. The Dutch is on his way for a medical in England, the Bundesliga club reported on Tuesday. "Luuk needs playing time" said Gladbach coach Lucien Favre.

What has Mata got to offer?

The Spaniard made a big money move to Old Trafford

Doesn't Mata...

The sequence of events following the agreeing of the transfer fee for Juan Mata surely gave Manchester United fans a reason to cheer but the questions which arises in such a situation is that -What is Mata going to offer to the Red Devils?

The versatile midfielder was a key figure in Chelsea's Champions League triumph some seasons ago but his falling out with the new manager Jose Mourinho suggested that his career at Chelsea might be edging towards an abrupt end.He was full of goals and assists during the peak of his career at Stamford Bridge and there's no wonder why there's so much hype being created regarding his big money move.A product of the Real Madrid youth academy,Juan Mata was stunning at Chelsea especially if you realize that he had given 58 assists there.

Gary Neville did remark that Mata will turn out to be a panic buy for United but by the looks of things, situations will improve for United.Considering the fact that the 25 year old can operate anywhere in the midfield,United will try him out in nearly all the positions he can utilized in.His major exploits have been accumulated when he is utilized in the hole behind the striker or on the left flank. And in case Mata gets up and running directly alongside Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, the Red Devils will be nearly impossible to beat. With van Persie upfront and Rooney behind him,Juan Mata can easily fit into the left flank where he can feed in both star men continuously.

A skillful attacking midfielder, Mata is known for his passing and his ability to score goals. At 5'8" he has a medium build that further facilitates agile mobility, Mata possesses great vision that allows him to provide assists to accompanying forwards and this is exactly what Manchester United are lacking right now. After the ineffective capture of Marouane Fellaini,Juan Mata can fit into United's side one way or another.

Here,in the 4-2-1-3 formation, which United normally use,the United side will look more balanced and well made up with two different central midfielders.Carrick, who is a decent holding midfielder likes to stay behind anytime while Fletcher is a midfielder who loves to make surging runs into the box to laud more pressure in the final third. And Fletcher will act as a link between Mata and Rooney on one hand and the defense which also includes Carrick on the other. And with the arrival of Mata,United will get the lift they needed by building their front line stronger. And his arrival also highly jeopardizes the positions of Ashley Young and Nani who have not shown their real mettle this season.Even Shinji Kagawa's and Valencia's position have fallen into intriguing positions with his arrival.

Another possibility could be the above mentioned formation. This one is also well balanced and sought out with Juan Mata operating in a much favorable role in the hole behind the strikers. But,this formation can be utilized mainly in  matches against big clubs like Man City or Chelsea who attack from all corners of the field.Spurs,Arsenal and Liverpool play a more midfield dominated game and that's why more than one player is needed in the central midfield in order to win those crucial battles in the middle. This will give Juan Mata an opportunity to get involved more in the play and he will play a huge role in determining the results of big games.

Barcelona Vs Malaga Preview

The Catalans host Malaga at Nou Camp
 .

There may be a lot of drama surrounding F.B.Barcelona after former President Sandro Rosell officially resigned, as per the team’s official website, but life goes on. The club is coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw against Levante on Sunday in their last league match and really need a good result this weekend.
This Sunday, Barcelona will be hosting Malaga at the Camp Nou, and nothing short of victory will be acceptable.
Tata Martino’s men need three points to keep their lead at the top of the La Liga table alive, and this match presents them with the perfect opportunity to make a real statement.
The Tata’s Tactics:-

Messi is expected to be in the starting lineupOn either side of Messi will be Alexis Sanchez and Pedro. Both wingers have been scoring goals this season and fighting for a place in the starting lineup, but with Neymar ruled out, they will be able to play together. With a midfield trio of BusquetsFabregas or Iniesta and Xavi.
Hope “Barca” wins this one with a Big margin
.

Salah Moves to Chelsea

Mourinho accepts a 11m deal for the Egypt-international - Mohamed Salah.

Salah, 21, has to undergo a medical test or agree to personal terms, but is most likely to move to the Bridge.
Chelsea's rival and the contenders of the title race, Liverpool might have got Salah as their first signing of the January Transfer Window.

After selling Number10- Juan Mata for 37m to Manchester United they have got a talented young winger to support the attack. After Mata's record signing by United, Chelsea moved swiftly for the Egyptian- winger who would be their third signing in the Transfer Break after signing back former player Nemanja Matic and Bertrand Traore.

The Egyptian might turn out be crucial for the Blues in future for the title race after the expected move of Kevin De Bruyne to Wolfsburg.

Salah, who can perform well in every kind of attacking role has been tracked by various big clubs in Europe for his performance in Europa League in the last season and Champions League in this season. He has scored breath-taking goals for his former side in Switzerland- FC Basel. He scored against Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Europa League back in 2013 and in this season in the UEFA Champions League.

He has helped Basel to reach the top spot.
He was the top scorer in the African World Cup Qualifiers with 6 goals. But unfortunately he couldn't bring his team to the Brazil 2014 as they were knocked off by Ghana.

After starting his football career for the Egyptian side         El Mokawloon he moved to FC Basel in 2012 and scored 5 goals in 29 appearances. And now, he has moved to the Blues' side in the Premier League and a lot is expected of him.

Psg look to regain momentum after their shocking loss at home:Preview

Guingamp look to heap upon the troubles for Psg.

Psg got their first defeat at home in 33 matches by Montpellier 2-1.It was a big disappointment for the Parisiens after  not being able to qualify for the round of 16 in the french cup.

Psg are currently sit pretty at the top of the table with 50 points and would be desperate to extend their lead to 8 points over Monaco for a day.

Defense has become an issue for Psg as they have conceded 6 goals in  their last 4 matches

On the other hand,Guingamp would love to create more pressure on the visitors and give them the defeat of their lives which they would never forget with the thrilling atmosphere at the Du Roudorou Stadium.

Guingamp are currently 14th in the table with only 6 wins from 21 matches and have won only once in their last 10 league matches.

Laurent Blanc said "We have to digest this defeat and move on, even if it was a big disappointment. We quickly turned our attentions to this match, Saturday, against Guingamp. But we did analyse our performance. The only real problem is that we didn't take our chances. It was a real Cup match."
He also added""First of all, it most certainly won't be the same team that started on Wednesday. This is a Ligue 1 match and we need to win points. We head to Guingamp with plenty of respect for this team and the firm intention of picking up all three points."

Team news

Psg are without Lavezzi who's sidelined due to the exploits of a groin injury. Adrien Rabiot would also be missing from the Line-up as he has a knee injury and Jallet  will not be in action for at least  2 months  . Thiago Silva will be back for the Parisiens after the twisted  ankle he suffered on Wednesday.
While, Guingamp will be without the likes of Christophe Mandanne.

Expected Line-ups

Guingamp(4-4-2): Assembe; Sorbon, Pereira, Kerbrat, Leveque; Beauvue, Sankhare, Giresse, Mathis; Langil, Yatabare.

PSG(4-3-3): Sirigu; Van der Wiel, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell; Motta, Matuidi, Verratti; Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.

Predictions

Parisiens are the favourites to win but Guingamp can spring in something and produce a big upset at their home. In the reverse fixture Psg won 2-0 with Ibra and Rabiot scoring one goal each.So Guingamp should be aware of Ibrahimovic the danger he posses to every team as he has scored 17 goals alone for Psg.

So I  predict a 2-0 win for Psg.

After signing Mata some more good news awaits fans

Man United confirmed that they have signed Juan Mata from Chelsea

After enduring an arduous start to the season,Manchester United were desperately in need of signing marquee players this January. And thanks to Jose Mourinho's inability to fit outcast Juan Mata into the squad,Manchester United were happy to announce on their official website that they had reached an agreement to sign the 25 year old Spaniard. And the official statement also confirmed the fact that Juan Mata is set to undergo a medical in Manchester in the coming days.Although,a huge number of reports already suggested that Juan Mata was on his way to Old Trafford, but the official confirmations have made the matter more clearer.
Manutd.com announced Mata's signing

And Mata was already set free by Chelsea after they accepted a €37 million bid for the Spaniard. But the interruptions in undergoing a medical were reasoned out be the fact that Chelsea were waiting to sign FC Basel youngster Mohammed Salah after agreeing terms with the Egyptian.

Now,let's shift our focus to some other transfer rumors surrounding Manchester United.

Caughtoffside.com and other sources suggest that David Moyes has launched a  £23 million bid for young Southampton left back Luke Shaw, attempting to hijack his move to rivals Chelsea.Although,Southampton had released a statement some weeks ago that the teenage sensation would be available only in the region of€40 million but Manchester United, who are desperately in need to bolstering their squad, have decided to do it cheaply.

And David Moyes was seen in Germany ,busy scouting Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos ,as suggested by Daily Mail. But,ignoring this piece of scout report, other sources state that he was scouting Bayern's centre-back Dante, who has been identified as a target for the Red Devils.

More rumors state that Manchester United have edged ever close to agreeing a new contract with starman Wayne Rooney who was reportedly fleeing away from having contract talks with the Manchester club. The new contract which Rooney is still to sign, will keep him at Old Trafford until 2018 and he will earn £300,000 a week and will be United's captain until then.

Neymar Transfer fee update

Speculations regarding Neymar's transfer were rife

Neymar has insisted there is "nothing illegal" in the contract that saw him join Barcelona in the summer despite Spain's public prosecutor asking the courts to investigate a possible case of "simulated contracts".
Neymar joined in a deal that Barcelona said cost €57.1m (£47m), €17.1m of which went to his former club Santos, but those figures and the destination of the money have been challenged by a Barcelona member who made a legal complaint. The public prosecutor has requested that the courts consider his case.
Jordi Cases wrote to the courts claiming that the true beneficiaries of the €40m paid to a company owned by Neymar's father are unknown, and the public prosecutor has also expressed doubts about the exact amount received by Santos. Barcelona's president, Sandro Rosell, has been open about the total figures involved but insisted that confidentiality clauses applied to some aspects of the deal.
According to Barcelona's published accounts, which they handed to the courts, the club paid €57.1m for Neymar: €17.1m to Santos and €40m to a company called N&N, owned by Neymar's father. Barcelona also paid €7.9m to secure the future rights of three Santos players and €9m for two friendlies between the two clubs.
The public prosecutor's report concluded that there are grounds to suspect that the contract signed between the club and the player may be "simulated"‚ with the details and descriptions of payments failing to accurately reflect what they were.
Here, the definition "penalty clause" comes under scrutiny. The public prosecutor insisted that the cash amount received by Santos remained "unclear". Courts will now ask Fifa for all relevant paperwork and request that Santos hand over documentation relating to the case.
That paperwork, Barcelona have said, will be the same paperwork that they have already presented to the courts. In a statement, Barcelona described it as "incredible" that the public prosecutor had requested the paperwork from Fifa, thus ignoring the fact that Barcelona had already handed it over and made a formal statement as defendants. The club called the attitude of the public prosecutor "reckless".
"The contractual complexity, referred to as a 'contractual simulation' by the public prosecutor in his report, never constitutes in itself a crime," Barcelona's statement said. "We believe that the public prosecutor commits a mistake in his report by understanding otherwise … Given the seriousness of the facts … we will act with determination in defence of the honour of Barcelona and its president."
In an interview with the Catalan newspaper Sport, Neymar said: "I know that a lot is being said about my contract. I have spoken to [my father] to see what they were talking about exactly. My father was the one who signed the contracts and he is someone in whom I have total trust.
"There is nothing illegal. In any case, if anyone has any doubts, they should ask my dad because I'm concentrating on my job, which is playing football."

Sunderland prevail in a game of multiple heart attacks

Manchester United crash out following a penalty shootout defeat

Phil Bardsley and Marcos Alonso rejoice

The fateful night of the 22nd of January saw an extra ordinary game being played under the lights of Old Trafford in Manchester.Sunderland, who were determined to hold onto their 2-1 lead from the 1st Leg,just never stopped applying pressure on the United defense which was performing well, until they conceded the last ditch equalizer.

Manchester United succeeded in breaking the dead-lock in the 37th minute through a clear Jonny Evans, who was being played onside by Italian striker Fabio Borini. The corner was drilled in by Adnan Januzaj from the left when Javier Hernandez put Jonny Evans clean through on goal. After the lone goal chances were few and far for both sides as United searched for a goal which guaranteed a safe passage to Wembley, while Sunderland looked for a goal which could've brought them on level terms.
Jonny Evans heads in the opener

Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans made some crucial interventions in the game and these vital performances meant that the game would head into extra -time.The tension and gloom around Old Trafford already suggested that something extra-ordinary was in store for the on-lookers and watchers. The first half of extra-time passed without any significant issues except for injuries suffered by Fabio Borini and United's Michael Carrick. The looks on the faces of the players told you the whole story and by then,it seemed as if only luck or misfortune could've determined the winner. If Sunderland had got the equalizer, they would've booked their spot in the Final and if United could've held on they would've been singing the songs of glory. But the talking pointscame very late in extra-time when a shot across the bowels by Phil Bardsley was fluffed by David de Gea,who was left disappointed and dejected on conceding the believed decisive goal.
David de Gea looks dejected after conceding the equalizer

But,just when the Black Cats thought that they'd nabbed a winner, they were caught napping by a very very late tap in by Javier Hernandez, who met an Adnan Januzaj cross perfectly .But,the 18 year old's selfishness was highlighted in this game as he was seen ,firing unnecessary shots towards Vito Mannone's goal post. The extra-ordinary game had not yet concluded as the nervy faces of the fans and the players clearly indicated that the penalty shoot outs were the best option to sought this one out.

United came back to scoring late through Chicharito

Gus Poyet and David Moyes were busy, charting out the penalty takers chart while the players were patting their keepers to encourage them more. The moment of truth was to arrive in a moment when Sunderland's Craig Gardener ,who had come off the bench ,stepped up to take the first spot kick. But,the United fans were highly relieved to watch the ball disappear into the orbit somewhere. The onus of converting United's first penalty fell to Danny Welbeck as specialist Javier Hernandez had fell to a muscle cramp. The Englishman was left to stare the ball as it was deposited into the stands as the score read 0-0.Steven Fletcher was next up for the visitors but David de Gea's desperateness to sought redemption paid off when he saved the Scot's spot kick which was to be placed into the bottom corner. The other Fletcher-Darren  scored to give United the lead in the dreaded penalty shoot out. But,Sunderland left Marcos Alonso levelled things up with a cool penalty. Now,it was the 18 year old Januzaj 's turn to show his ability under stifling pressure but the Belgian scuppered his spot kick, which fell straight into the arms of Vito Mannone. The most dependable of the candidates Ki-Sung Yueng showed his composure after successfully converting his chance to give Sunderland the lead.Up stepped another youngster in Phil Jones, but he skied his spot-kick big time as the ball sailed into the stands.
United missed 4 of their 5 spot kicks, which is demoralizing

The gloom and expressions of fright on the faces of the United players and fans conveyed the story of the penalty shoot outs as,Mr.Sunderland-Adam Johnson stepped up to possibly  win the game for his side. The man in purple patch was denied by a trademark acrobatic save by the Spaniard stopper ,who certainly made up for his howler.
If Rafael missed,Sunderland would've won the game of tensions and heart-attacks and rightly so,the young Brazilian's shot was saved by a diving Vito Mannone, who was seen rejoicing along with the Sunderland side in front of their 9,000 fans present there at the Theatre of Dreams.

Although, the game went Sunderland's way but it was a game to be remembered forever for both sets of fans, who were guaranteed an enthralling enounter. Now,Sunderland will play Manchester City at Wembley in the final of the League Cup on the 2nd of March

Parisiens look to continue their winning run at home

Montepellier will look to survive the battle of nerves

Psg would love to reach the round of 16 by trouncing the tenacious visitors and will look to win 20 matches in a row at home. With Ibrahimovic and Cavani in splendid form by scoring 30 goals together, they have become one of the most potent strike forces in Europe.

Psg thrashed Stade Brestois 5-2 in the round of 64 with the 32 year old Swede scoring a hat-trick  ,Thiago Motta and   Lavezzi scoring one goal each.

Psg's form is still a concern for their supporters and management as their conversion rate has been simply, demoralising.

While, the visitors from central France visitors will look to boost up their confidence and give Parisiens a wake up call

Their form this session has been under  par with winning only 3 games out of 21 and sitting 16th in the table but they shown they can be a surprise package and can produce extraordinary when they drew with Monaco 1-1.

Montpellier saw off Rodez Aveyron Football in the round of 64 thanks to a Niang penalty and a Teddy Mezague goal in a 2-0 win.

Expected line-ups

Psg: (5-3-2) Sirigu;Silva,Van Der Wiel,Maxwell,Camara,Alex,Motta,Verratti,Matuidi, Pastore,Ibrahimovic,Cavani.

Montpellier(4-4-3):   Pionnier,Depglane,Hilton Da  Silva,Mezague,Marveaux,Dabo,Sanson,Montano,Herrera,Mounier

Predictions

I will predict a 2-0 win for Psg. But it's all or nothing at stake for both  the teams.

It is great to see a club reap enormous profits out of a transfer and the occasion becomes more special when your own club does so.Although, some transfers have enabled players to slump into abrupt darkness but there are some cases of the opposite as well. So,let's take a look at some transfers that have reaped colossal amounts of profits for the involved clubs-

                                             1. Gareth Bale (Net profit: £78.3m)
Spurs fans were heartbroken to see Bale depart after the Welshman wowed the Premier League with some super-human performances last season but Real paid a world record £85m for Bale, who cost Spurs just £7m from Southampton in 2007. Saints allegedly wavered a 25% sell-on clause in 2008 inserted in the deal which saw Tottenham buy Bale due to financial constraints at the time. Ouch.

                                        2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Net profit: £67.7m)
A man who needs no introduction, Cristiano Ronaldo was spotted by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in a friendly with Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and the Scot was so impressed with the teenager he paid £12.2m for him shortly afterwards. A stunning six years at Old Trafford saw Ronaldo establish himself as one of the world’s best players but he he has reached even dizzier heights at the Bernabeu, following a then-world record £80m transfer in 2009. United made a £67.7m profit, but how they would love the 2013 Ballon d’Or winner back at Old Trafford now.

                                                        3. Kaka (Net profit: £51m)
Controversial AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi described Kaka’s transfer fee as ‘peanuts’ after landing the playmaker from Sao Paulo for just £3m. The ex-Italian PM couldn’t have known what an astronomical profit he would make on the Brazilian, who joined Real Madrid for £57m in 2009, having claimed the Ballon d’Or two years earlier. Kaka struggled to reach the same heights in the Spanish capital, however, and returned to Milan this summer, where he is beginning to shine once again.

                                         4. Zinedine Zidane (Net profit: £42.8m)
It is testament to Zidane’s genius that Juventus’ £42m profit made in 2001 is still the fourth highest in history. After signing Zizou for just £3m from Marseille in 1996, Juve watched as the playmaker achieved global stardom with his performances at World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000, prompting Real Madrid to pay £45.8m for the Frenchman in 2001. Zidane became a legend at the Bernabeu, where he is now assistant manager and sporting director. His son is also on the La Liga giant’s books so if genius runs in the family, Los Blancos won’t have to pay through the nose for it this time.

                                          5. Edinson Cavani (Net profit: £40m)
The emergence of rich PSG and AS Monaco as major players on the European football scene has seen transfer fees spiral and Napoli were the recipients of a huge profit this summer. Edinson Cavani was far from prolific at Palermo before Napoli coughed up £14m for his services in 2010 but the Uruguayan scored a whopping 100 goals in 138 appearances in Naples, before PSG signed him for £54m. The Uruguayan now forms a delicious partnership with Zlatan at the Parc des Princes.
