Top Stars Who Wouldn't Play At Brazil

Petr Cech ( Chelsea and Czech Republic )

One of the best goalkeepers currently in the Premier League, the tall man with his headgear would not be seen at the Brazil World Cup 2014 in front of the goal. He has only played in one single World Cup, in 2006. Last time in South Africa, Czech Republic's defeat to Armenia proved to be costly in the qualifiers.

Samir Nasri ( Manchester City and France )

When Didier Deschamps announced his squad for the World Cup, Samir Nasri was not included in it. This fact wasn't greeted with much of a surprise. The possible reason is that Nasri doesn't play with the same spirit for his national team as he does for his league team and he is kind of a controversial player. So, the coach hasn't even included him in the 7-man reserves' squad.

Radamel Falcao ( AS Monaco and Columbia )

The former Atletico Madrid striker, Radamel Falcao would be missing out the big tournament as he has been suffering from a knee injury for quite a long time. The Colambian fans and the team had great expectations from this unique talent but unfortunately their star player would not be featuring in his dream tournament, the World Cup 2014 at Brazil.

Robert Lewandowksi ( Borussia Dortmund and Poland )

The top-scorer of German Bundesliga this season, Robert Lewandowksi would be missing the big summer tournament in Brazil. He would end this season trophyless as Dortmund were the runners up in DFB Pokal and second in the league also. Poland could not make it through the qualifying stage and would leave other stars of their team sitting at home.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ( Paris Saint Germain and Sweden )

" A World Cup without me is nothing to watch ", said the Swedish star after his side could find their way to Brazil after their loss to Portugal in the qualifiers. According to fans, without the Puskas Award winner, the World Cup would be at a loss.

Gareth Bale ( Real Madrid and Wales )

Big players like Ryan Giggs, Ian Rush and Mark Hughes never got a chance to play at big tournaments representing Wales. And Gareth Bale is looking to continue the tradition in 2014 World Cup as the world's costliest player would not be featuring in the tournament.

Simeone Loses His Temper [With Video]

Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone give away his temper on two different situations - one with referee Bjorn Kulpers and the other with Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane.  Simeone lost his temper as he saw his side blow off their 1-0 lead and loose 4-1 in the Final of the Champions League.

On the first occasion, Simeone charged up onto the field to confront referee Bjorn Kulpers after he appointed 5 minutes of stoppage time after considering the fact that there were no time-wasting incidents in the second half of the match.

The so-called underdogs of LaLiga, Atletico Madrid were in front after Diego Godin's goal in the 30th minute, but the score was equalized after Sergio Ramos' goal took the match into extra-time. The misery wasn't over. From a score of 1-1, Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo took the Los Blancos to their 'La Decima' title making it 4-1.

In a separate incident, Diego Simeone ran down the pitch to confront young defender Raphael Varane who had kicked the ball towards the Atletico Madrid's bench after Ronaldo's penalty kick had settled the match. He had to held back by the players and other members of the coaching staff.

Simeone offered an apology after the match and said  " I also made a mistake with my reaction. He is a young guy with a bright future. But we old guys don't like this and doing this at a score of 4-1 is completely pointless."

It was Atletico Madrid's first European final since 1974 and the underdogs were seconds away from getting their names on the history books.

You can see how Varane kicked the ball towards Simeone and the fiery manager paid him back by invading the pitch.

Manchester United eye shock move for another Everton midfielder

Man United are being linked with a shock move for Everton midfield battler James Mccarthy
After being handed in a reality check in their pursuit of Toni Kroos ,the latest midfielder Manchester United are being linked with is Everton midfield battler James Mccarthy.

Reports suggest that the Irishman is featuring among the plethora of foreign players Louis van Gaal is in  pursuit of,including Kevin Strootman and Cesc Fabregas. The 23 year old Irishman was bought from Championship side Wigan Athletic almost an year ago in an attempt to replace outgoing Marouane Fellaini in the midfield at Goodison Park.
James Mccarthy has played a central role in guiding the Toffees to a 5th place finish and his significant efforts have not gone unnoticed.More so,United are offering Tom Cleverley to Roberto Martinez’s side to complement the move to occur smoothly.
A  move might take place, despite of Mccarthy’s loyalty to Roberto Martinez but Everton would be hesitant to see the Irishman leave but may just end up offloading James Mccarthy if Tom Cleverley is offered in a player plus cash exchange.
Tom Cleverley, the man who was being labelled as a “scapegoat” for United’s below par showings this season has truly endured a huge amount of condemnation off late.Almost like Darron Gibson’s fate, the Englishman may also end up moving to Goodison Park
A move may freshen up his surroundings and you know, during tough times you can’t get any worser. James Mccarthy looks far better than Cleverley as of now and a United are eyeing to put a greater emphasis on their youth products.
Cleverley’s image has been vanadalized lately and a move to the Liverpool based club may suit him and the two concerned parties.

Who Will Win The 2014 Fifa World Cup?

With less then a month remaining for the one of the biggest event in sporting history, people are becoming more mad, cheerful and exciting. World Cup is like a stage where an underrated player can become a sensation overnight. Also people are busy figuring and very hot debates are being carried out on who can possibly win the World Cup. So to make the picture little clearer in the mind let's read the rest of the article.

In an interview, the great Zinedine Zidane when asked who can win the World Cup,  gave a very practical answer and said-
" You cannot predict any thing. Spain are the defending champions and they have the ability to repeat the win. Brazil showed what they can do in the Confederations Cup. They will be playing at home and it's great to remember what we did at home in 1998. Germany and Italy are eternal favourites in the World Cup, while Argentina and Portugal will be blessed to have Messi and Cristiano. Please do not write off FranceThey can surprise many . "
But there is one more country who has the ability to become world champions- Netherlands

1. Netherlands

The runners-up of the 2010 World Cup, the striker pair of Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben can make a difference. Midfield maestroes like Wesley Sneijder and Nigel de Jong can feed the srikers with chances for goals. Although chances are slim, but anything can happen in this sport. This why people are mad over this sport.

2. France

Under Didier Dechamps, there is a slight posibility that France can shock many and win the World Cup. They have players like Karim Benzema, who has been currently shining for Real Madrid. Franck Ribery can make chances and score goals. With rising stars like Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane france have a possibility. They have a good keeper, Hugo Lloris who has made some formidable saves for Tottenham Hotspur. They also have defenders like Evra and Sagna.

3. Portugal

The Portuguese national team can win the World Cup because of their prized possession- Cristiano Ronaldo. If the midfielders perform their job nicely, Ronaldo can single handedly lead the team to the crown of World Cup 2014. Fabio Coentrao can also defend well. Currently on the radar of the biggest clubs of Europe, William Carvalho can also perform his magic.

4. Argentina

Being captained by Leo Messi, Argenina can win the 2014 WC. The three strikers, Hinguain, Messi and Aguero, can cause havoc in the opponent's defence system and when down on goals they can make a comeback. A.di Maria can provide continuous assists. The speed and dribbling of Lavezzi can surprise many.

5. Italy
Football fan Pope to meet national squad
Being the winner four times, Italy are eternal favourites. They have a classy keeper, Buffon who was and is regarded as one of the best GK in the world. Defender Chiellini is one of the best. In midfield they have Pirlo, there is nothing left to say much about him. One of the forwards, Ciro Immobile is the highest scorer in Serie A with twenty one goals. There is nothing much to say about this team as everyone knows there capability.

6. Germany

The German team is composed of the best. They have the best keeper, Maneul Neur. They have a highly rich midfield composed of Lars Bender, Sami Khedira, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos and Mesut Ozil. Rising star Julian Draxler is one of them. At the defence they have Hummels, Mertesacker and Lahm. They are one of the strong contenders.

7. Brazil

Well, they are going to play at home, a lot is expected from them. Star players like Neymar, Hulk, Oscar and Dani Alves who has the ability to defend and sometimes score in pressure times is a good feature about him. They showed what they can do in the Confederations Cup. A good result is expected under coach Luis Scolari.

8. Spain

Spain have the confidence in them as they were the winners of the last edition of the WC. They have most of the best players in the world. Young starlet David de Gea can make his WC debut. The biggest plus point of the Spanish team is that they don't have as such any key players but each player who is in the squad performs his role well. That is why they won the 2010 WC against Netherlands.

There are more countries like England and Belgium and many other but, who knows who will win? This is football. Anything can happen. What do you think? Who is going to be the World Champion?

What All Has Changed Since Fergie Has Left?

Well, a lot has changed since Sir Alex Ferguson has left football.
Let's see what.
                                    United Signed A New Boss,
                                     But  Sacked Him

Former Everton manager, David Moyes was the lucky man. He was handpicked by Sir Fergie to take charge at United. A lot was expected of him in a long run, but unfortunately Moyes was fired after a nightmare-like season with the Devils.

From the past many seasons, United were easily qualifying for the Champions League. But in this season, playing the Europe's elite club tournament was left only as a dream. United finished struggling for the UEFA Europa League spot for the next season behind Everton ( 5th ) and Spurs ( 6th ).

After a dreadful result, the former Everton boss was sacked by the Devils and current coach of the Netherlands' team, Louis Van Gaal has been appointed to take charge of the matters at Old Trafford.

Arsenal Open Their Trophy Room Again To Add Something

Finally the Gunners have shown that they are still capable of winning prestigious trophies like the FA Cup.
Arsenal last won the same trophy when in 2005 they beat Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United from penalties. Patrik Vieira was the man who struck the last ball to give them their glory back in 2005.

Wenger's Arsenal remained on the top spot in the Premier League for 128 days. Which is about half a season. This means that they could have ended their trophyless years with an absolute bang, winning the FA Cup and the Premier League.

Liverpool Qualify For the Champions League

The last time Liverpool qualified for the Champions League was back in the days of 2010. This season their performance can be described as " Electrifying ".

Their striking partnership consisting of the goal machine, Luiz Suarez who played less games due to last season's ban and young English striker Daniel Sturridge together have put a big impact on English football as they have put the ball in the back of the net 47 times together. They are currently Europe's best striking partnership known as " SAS ".

Real Madrid has been showing interests in Luiz Suarez as well as Daniel Sturridge. Even their galacticos  Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema failed to compete with SAS.

                       Barcelona End Without A Trophy

The Spanish Catalan club, FC Barcelona unlike various previous season had to unfortunately end their 2013/14 campaign without adding a trophy to their cabinet.

Barcelona needed to beat Atletico Madrid on the final day of La Liga to secure their fifth league title in six years but they could only manage to have a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou and finished 3 points adrift of the Madrid side.

They were knocked down by the same Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. " El Clasico " opponents, Real Madrid completed their misery after leaving them with a 2-1 defeat in the Copa Del Ray finals.

Manchester United Agree Fee for Kroos

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal for Bayern Munich star midfielder Toni Kroos for £20million.
Reports suggest that United had already agreed the fee pertaining to the transfer under the reign of former manager David Moyes and his Dutch successor has given a go ahead for the transfer.
Kroos, who has formerly played under van Gaal is keen to reunite with him. The German midfielder's contract runs out once the next season ends and Bayern would not be keen to offload a prized possession on a Bosman transfer.
Bayern Munich and Toni Kroos have been locked in a struggle to agree a new deal for a while with no side looking to budge.
Kroos had earlier stated that a lack of Champions League football would not worry him if he was looking to leave Germany.
Sources say that Louis van Gaal is now eyeing a big money move for Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
Southampton full-back Luke Shaw and Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels are also  believed to be on  van Gaal' s shopping list, as he undertakes the job of rebuilding a struggling Manchester United team.

Brazilians Go Against The World Cup

Dave Zirin has a new book out till the next week, " Brazils' Dance With The Devil : The World Cup, The Olympics And Fight For Democracy" .

After the Confederations Cup in Brazil during the last year's summer, the people of Brazil started protesting against the hosting of World Cup in 2014. Now, not even a month is left, they are putting on the slogan as
#NaoVaiTerCopa , which means " There Would Be No Cup ".

Protests and direct strikes have been flaring across the country as the 2014 FIFA World Cup approaches. About 10,000 people have occupied major part of the ground in Sao Paolo under the banner Brazil's Landless Workers Movement. The protesters say that about have a billion dollars were used to build the FIFA " Quality Stadium ". On the other hand they say that the money could be used to combat poverty or improve healthcare.

According to the LosAngeles Times, people were first happy to know that their country would be hosting the big summer tournament. They thought that various new healthcare technologies would be introduced in their areas along with good educational infrastructure. But they saw that the government is " WASTING " money by building big stadiums and realized that they are hosting it for popularity and for the mark of respect but not for the country or the people.

As far as the debt goes, this would be the most expensive World Cup in the history since 1930 with a price tag of about 15 billion dollars. In addition to the "anti-terror" legislation, Brazil would have more boots on the ground than any other World Cup. We would be witnessing about 170,000 security agents. 22% more than that we saw at South Africa in 2010. The security was a major concern for the President Dilma Rousseff as he has spent major part of the financial resources for the protection of wealthy football tourists.

The calls of the protest aim to highlight the lives of the people who are behind the curtain, pulling the strings. Brazil's Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo marked that the people would be busy celebrating the victory and good performance in the tournament rather than protesting against the unprecedented misery they have faced.

But till date, this statement is contradictory.

A tactical analysis of Louis van Gaal's philosphy

Louis van Gaal has been confirmed as the new Man United manager

The inevitable has finally been confirmed and amidst reports already linking him to United,it didn't come as a surprise for the Old Trafford faithfuls.

The beaming eyes, fearful demeanor of a manager will, once again torture the United players and may coerce them to get the best out of themselves. People did refer to Sir Alex as a "dictator" but quite ostensibly, Van Gaal is a bigger dictator than anybody.

The 62 year old so called "messiah" has enjoyed glory laden periods at the club's he has already managed, including the UEFA Champions League with Ajax. He has a reputation for playing a dominant style of football and moreover, being attractive in one's approach.

He is also credited for playing a huge part in grooming the once best players including Clarence Seedorf and Edgar Davids and in providing Bayern Munich an ultimate revitalization during their transition period. After all, he is the man who brought Thomas Muller , Bastian Schweinsteiger , Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben to the Bavarian club and as of current evidence, there is no reminding you of how many accolades they've gathered.

The Dutchman ,apart from being a dictator is also an indomitable and a feared speaker in front of the media. He is not even scared of blurting out in the media ,much like Mourinho and just like United,Spurs,Arsenal,Liverpool and City fans loath the very look of Mourinho, rival fans would hate van Gaal as well.

As far as his tactics and philosophy is concerned ,the most prominent aspect is the shared onus on the team.Almost all his players on the pitch are prescribed to play a particular role.He doesn't buy a big name signing just for the sake of it,but because it serves a particular purpose. While his counterparts prefer first buying a player and then fitting him into it,he prefers to buy players who fit into his formation.

He doesn't buy a striker only because he's touted to be a "star" but he first analyzes his qualities such as holding up, poaching and then considers him.

And the word "counter attacking football" is not present in his dictionary ,unlike David Moyes' defensive minded mentality. He loves to preach  a high pressing style of football even if it demands domination of possession. His team is accustomed to compelling the opposition in sticking to performing a " back to the walls" job by pinning them back by denying them any chances .

He mostly sticks to a 4-3-3 formation ,with two wingers ,who are mostly supposed to be quick, swift and agile. The instances include Frank Ribery , Arjen Robben and Luis Figo. By doing so,the team becomes keen to dominate possession higher up front by bringing in men towards the infield, resembling Bayern Munich.

But,with a side like United, I do find this formation tough to settle into the squad. It's quite inconceivable to see United dominate possession and press high and what is more indifferent to see would be imagining van Persie and Rooney together up front, with a false nine.

It won't be easy to preach a side as in decline as this how to take hold of around 60 percent of possession but only time will tell as to how,LVG stamps his authority over "his" side.

Are England right in selecting Luke Shaw?

The 18 year old has been very impressive off late

"Four years ago I was sat at home watching it(The World Cup) on my sofa. It is going to be so weird"

It truly feels weird to see an 18 year old kid play the FIFA World Cup for a country like England. But on the contrary ,on also feels happy for teenager Luke Shaw ,in such a case.

His performances have been electric and have even succeeded in gaining well deserved and envied attention from the big clubs in England. In Short , it seems he's too good for his age or for someone of his age.

But,is Roy Hodgson spot on in picking him as a second choice left back for his team, which will travel to Brazil later this month?

The Southampton ace would literally savor an opportunity to showcase his repertoire at the grandest stage but it would not be easy. The World Cup always seems to demand something extra out of your armory and it's about time when the pressure gets to you.

And imagine an 18 year old playing under the burden similar to this? Yes,he is second in the pecking order to Everton full back Leighton Baines but it would be extremely amazing if he continues from where he left off at St.Mary's.

The Manchester United bound sensation will probably be used by Hodgson in England's last Group stage game against Costa Rica ,only if the Three Lions already ensure a safe passage to the next round. And a mess up against  Italy and Uruguay in consecutive games may land them in a knotty situation against Bryan Ruiz's men.

But,if we consider that England have been assured off a spot in the next round and they will play a dead rubber against Costa Rica, then the 18 year old may succeed in doing what he does best .
He received his first English cap recently

And at this point,Hodgson considers to start him for the knockout game but believe me,its going to be a huge risk. That will be the point where the perils of being young will gradually creep in . The extra ordinary amount of pressure I talked about earlier ,is something Luke Shaw is not used to shrugging off his shoulders.

With all due respect to Shaw's credentials, I hate to say this but he's sure to falter and cost England at such a crucial stage. Moreover,he may end up damaging himself by faltering under the colossal amount of pressure a teenager like him or Adnan Januzaj is being forced to deal with.

His mere age itself concludes that even a minute mistake committed by him may torture him personally and as a person as well.

Watch this funny free kick !

Have a look at this awesome free kick ,which was buried into the top corner

Finally Arsenal End Their Trophy-Less Streak

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal broke their nine-year trophyless run after yesterday's victory over Hull City in the finals of the FA Cup.

Nine years. Nine years without a trophy. It took them longer than the fans had expected when Partik Vieira lifted the same trophy after the penalty shoot out against Man. United in 2005.

How did this misery end?

2 goals inside 8 minutes. With a screamer by Santi Cazorla who made it 2-1. Arsenal were behind till the 71st minute, Koscielny scores. Extra time action from Aaron Ramsey making in 3-2 for the Gunners.

A nightmare started to develop in the minds of the Gunners that coming so close to the trophy, they might loose it when James Chester and Curtis Davis converted their close range efforts into crucial goals. Followed by a great piece of work by the young midfielder, Santi Cazorla, everyone in the Wembley Stadium were shocked.

In the second half, the tides turned entirely to the Gunner's way. Their play was defined as
" Electrifying " as fans lost count of the number of chances they created. Wenger remained on his feet, at the dugout, urging his players to be confident and to give their best. This motivation payed off when Laurent Koscielny converted Cazorla's corner into the equalizer for the Londeners. Aaron Ramsey took care of the Extra -time action as he gave Arsenal their first trophy in nine years through his wonderful goal.

Steve Bruce's game plan became immediately clear:  frustration with counter attacks. And Curtis Davies in-charge of the defensive line. He used his pedigree formation. 3-5-2. A system which was being trusted from the past two years. His wing-backs, Ahmad Elmohamady and Liam Rosenior were aggressive and often joined the attack to put pressure on Arsenal's defense.

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal's front man was leading the attack with pace but unfortunately could not convert the chances he got into remarkable goals, which he could have possibly done. So Davies willfully dragged his line high up the pitch and encroached upon the halfway mark whenever possible.

In the power pack of five midfielders in Hull's team, two of them were over Giroud making sure he gets minimum touches on the ball, one was over Lukas Podolski when he drifted towards the shoulder and other two were taking charge of the passing.

A hard-fought win over Hull should give confidence to Wenger's young players and could usher in more glory in north London. One can not ignore that they could have won the league also. What are you all expecting of the Gunners in the 2014/15 season?

A lowdown on the Spanish squad

Spain get in into the wagon wheel of the announcement of the World Cup squad as manager Vincente Del Bosque revealed his 30-man provision for the big tournament.

Del Bosque included names who were a part of 2010 World Cup as well as some young guns to give them a shot at the summer tournament.

The Barcelona trio of Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets would orchestrate the midfield of the reigning champions along with the experienced legs of Xabi Alonso and young Koke. It won't be easy for Man United star Juan Mata to rise up the pecking order,if Spain play a traditional Barcelona like 4-3-3 formation but much like Koke, should be given sporadic match time.

Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique once again have got into the central defence while Daniel Carvajal and Cesar Azplicueta were both selected for their first World Cup and would look to impress Del Bosque and put a big impact on world football, just like they have done in their respective leagues.Del Bosque will probably prefer Pique and Ramos at the back with Azpilicueta and Alba on the right and left full back spots.

Diego Costa has got his name on the sheet with his Atletico-mate David Villa and EURO 2012 Golden Boot Winner, Fernando Torres in the forward line. Alvaro Negredo, who was crucial for Manchester City's title clinching, was included in the squad, while Roberto Soldado was ruled out after a not-so good season with English giants Tottenham Hotspur.

Iker Casillas would be again holding the position of the captain for the Spanish side in front of goal. Manchester United's young goalkeeper, David De Gea would be replacing the injured Victor Valdes, leaving Pepe Reina as the third choice for Bosque.

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Napoli/ITA), David de Gea (Manchester United/ENG)
Defenders: Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos (both Real Madrid), Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba (both Barcelona), Cesar Azplicueta (Chelsea/ENG), Juanfran (Atletico Madrid), Javi Martinez (Bayern Munich/GER), Raul Albiol (Napoli/ITA), Alberto Moreno (Sevilla)
Midfielders: Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas (all Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Ander Iturraspe (Athletic Bilbao), David Silva (Manchester City/ENG), Santi Cazorla (Arsenal/ENG), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich/GER), Juan Mata (Manchester United/ENG)
Forwards: Diego Costa, David Villa (both Atletico Madrid), Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas (both Manchester City), Pedro Rodriguez (Barcelona), Fernando Llorente (Juventus/ITA), Fernando Torres (Chelsea/ENG)

A lowdown on the German squad

The German side looks the strongest on paper , But what can be expected out of them?

One of the most promising squad is being sent by ‘The European Giants' Germany this year. The side looks well balanced and is a mixture of experience and young talent. All the departments of the game look well covered but what stands out is the midfield. With the likes of Sami Khedira, Mesut Ožil, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller and Andre Schurrle the midfield of Germany looks the strongest among all the teams. The substantial tiki-taka style of Germans will also play an important role in their World Cup campaign.

The defence of Germans will be mainly dependent on Phillip Lahm, Jerome Boateng and Per Mertesacker. Other defenders are young and low on experience so Lahm has to guide his troops well. The attack looks safe in the hands of Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose, who will be supported very well by their midfielders such as the dynamic and reliable Marco Reus .Mario Gomez will  sit out after enduring an injury prone season with Fiorentina but the inclusion of youngster such as Kevin Volland did surprise many and in case,he manages to break into the first squad it will be a real death knell for Gomez to tolerate.

The target man must be a goal poaching candidate and Miroslav Klose,if fit, must take up the role. Or else,Kruse or Volland would consider the spot to be up for grabs and may look to prove their respective worths. They will,no doubt be fed in by the likes of Reus,Ozil from all facets of the pitch but it remains to be seen whether midfield maestro Sami Khedira would be included in the starting line ups. Khedira would prove out to be a key figure in the German side, considering his exceptional ability to marshal the play for his side.

There would be great expectations from Löew's side as German clubs have performed brilliantly but the national team is still to deliver in international tournaments. The squad does consist of big names but they tend to disappear in big games. The Germans start their world cup campaign against Portugal and would be desperate for a win.

Goal Keepers: Manuel Neuer, Ron-Robert Zieler, Roman Weidenfeller

Defenders: Per Mertesacker,Jerome Boateng,Erik Durm,Kevin Grooskreutz,Benedict Howedes,Mats Hummels,Marcel Jansen,Phillip Lahm,Marcel Schmelzer,Shkhordan Mustafi

Midfielders:Lars Bender,Bastian Schweinsteiger,Julian Draxler,Matthias Ginter,Leon Goretzka,Mario Gotze,Andre Hahn,Sami Khedira,Toni Kroos,Max Meyer,Thomas Muller,Mesut Ozil,Marco Reus,Lukas Podolski,Andre Schurrle

Strikers:Miroslav Klose,Kevin Volland

The ageing Golden Generation of Les Elephants

The golden generation of Ivory Coast must make a final impact on the world stage

This World Cup it will be time to Unbolt the doors, roll up the window blinds and watch the golden generation take center stage for probably their last time in an occasion as colossal as this. When other fairly able teams strive for a cup, this equally able side strives for  recognition among the masses.

How often would you see a side consisting of the most followed stars of the generation including Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Salomon Kalou resort to obtaining a meagre spot in a World Cup.Sure, they have not made a name for themselves on the International stage but their long lists of accolades do remind you of their credibility.

The much proclaimed Golden Generation may be playing their last World Cup this June and much the sorrow of the Ivorian fans,it would be their last likelihood of announcing themselves on the big stage. Considering the enviable ability of their side, one would consider the African Cup of Nations to be a mere formality but nobody knows what they lack when they get dumped out in the Quarter Finals of one of them.

Les Elephants have a huge amount of firepower in their ageing side, players like Didier Drogba ,Yaya Toure,Kolo Toure,Cheik Tiote,Salomon Kalou,Seydou Dombia and Wilfred Bony call the shots in their side. More so,the experience acquired by almost all of these marvels is admirable. Drogba, the current Galatasaray star has obtained a vast amount of experience from Chelsea and was rewarded the Golden Boot twice .

Yaya Toure, the Manchester City midfielder orchestrator has never failed to deliver the goods for the Sky Blues. The 31 year old has racked up a huge amount of goals and assists through the years during his stay at City.Much like what Kalou achieved for Chelsea.

The other above mentioned players have not yet reached the pinnacle of their careers but are treated to be the best in their positions in their respective Leagues.

All of them have got used to delivering stellar performances for their clubs but have got acclimatized to faltering on the International Stage.Maybe, the temperature or the playing conditions in Africa serve as basket cases because most of them are accustomed to residing in cold places such as Manchester or Moscow(in Doumbia's case).Or perhaps the term "Golden Generation " itself is a curse.

This would be their last chance to catch the attention of the masses by surprise and it would be happiness indeed,if they manage to do so.The playing conditions in Brazil do resemble those of Africa quite closely.

The Les Elephants have been pitted alongside equally inept sides like Japan,Columbia,Greece. On paper, their team looks miles ahead of the other three in Group C but football is not played on paper,or is it?

They will take to the pitch for the first time against the Shinji Kagawa inspired Japanese side and this game, will be a tough one for them apart from the one against the Colombians. The lowly Greek side would be lucky enough to outsmart them and avoid them a spot in the Round of 16.

It would be an ideal tournament for them if they somehow manage to steer themselves towards the Quarter Finals and more so,it would be decent enough to detach the "Chokers Tag" from their names.

USA and Mexico-World Cup Preview

Preview - USA and Mexico - the CONCACAF representation at the FIFA World Cup 2014

It’s been far too long since a North American team has impressed at the World cup finals. Will the CONCACAF nations put up a show in brazil ??. Is this the time we get to see what their actuall potential is ??. All we know at this moment and time is that IF these teams perform on par with the others, the world cup will be a lot more than just participating in it for their respective fans as well more interesting and exciting for the neutrals.

With the World cup just a few days away, it will be interesting to see whether the two North American giants, namely USA and Mexico put up a fight; Surprise everyone and finally show what thier always exciting and promising squads consisting of many young and talented players is capable of. We haven't had any such team come up and fight against the best of the best in the recent past.

When will this change and what impact this could have on World Football.

The fans of these respective countries would be the first ones to hope that this changes in over a months time.  Having said that, as neutrals everyone wants to see the so called small teams challenge the bigger teams in the World Cup in what's expected to be an end to end affair each game. The United States of America and the Mexico national team have always had players who have impressed as far as club football and domestic tournaments are concerned.

But on the International stage, they haven’t been able to showcase their talents in a way that they're often expected to. A part of this is down to the competetiveness in both the country’s leagues which was questioned in the past but has improved a lot over time. On a positive note, Mexico have continued their what has become a legacy now, to produce exciting young prospects who’ve later went on to make a name for themselves and Mexico itself in Europe.

Now, after a long wait, both these teams have a blend of youth and experience in their world cup squads. Both countries are in probably the toughest groups available and are expected to go out in the first round itself. With the Managers’s tactics, players available and certain experienced players in mind; almost everything taken into consideration, they have a fair outside chance of progressing in this tournament if everything clicks into place.

An impressive performance in Brazil by both these teams could lead to many of their players coming in the limelight which could penultimately determine many transfers after the tournament ends. A success at the world cup finals would further give a boost to both the countrys' FA's to invest more and more money into their respective   national team set-ups to improve and possibly build on it.

                                            United States of America

Manager:- Jurgen Klinsmann

USA remain the only CONCACAF team to achieve the highest position in a World Cup (3rd). They come to Brazil on the back of an excellent qualifying campaign having scored most goals in their group (15). They certainly are a team who can surprise quite a few and do well in Brazil. Managed by a a man who has a surprise up his sleeve every now and then, USA have adapted to Klinsmann’s  methods very well.   The 1994 hosts came closest in 2002 when they were knocked out by Germany in the quarters. They lie 3rd in terms of quality in the group of death which consists the likes of  Germany, Portugal and Ghana.

USA will again depend on their top experienced perfomers in Tim Howard, Geoff Cameroon, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey etc. They’ve got a goal poacher in Dempsey who takes his chances when given adequate supply, and a great versatile player in Donovan who can operate anywhere across the front three. Being the captain, Donovan always led from the front and has mostly been the only genuine performer against the big teams.

Between the poles are the safe hands of Tim Howard who’s had a great season with his club Everton in the Premier league. Another genuine quality forward USA have is Josy Altidore who’s a big physicall presence upfront, capable of holding the ball up and getting others into play and who's very strong in the air. Michael Bradley is the one they depend on to connect defence into attack. Geoff Cameroon and Matt Besler are two reliable defenders who are expected to start in Brazil. Under  Klinsmann, Cameroon has been rock solid so far. The omission of Tim Ream was unexpected as he had a fairly good season with Bolton.

In all, USA have a good team who on their day with the right decisions, can cause an upset. Let’s hope they do so, because it would only make up for further entertainment and excitement as far as thier own fans and the neutrals are concerned.

                                                        Mexico

Manager :- Miguel Herrera

Mexico have always been a team who’ve showed promise, but never have they perfomed to their level of expectation in the World Cup. They’re one of those teams having excellent youth prospects and experienced veterans. They also are a team who play  a brand of free flowing attacking football which is wonderfull on the eye.

As quoted by USA captain Landon Donovan “In my opinion, the youth in Mexico is better than ours. We're looking for ways to improve it, but for me Mexico is one of the best in the world at that kind of progression, with youth, and with the national team it's almost the same forever, and I think it will continue to be for a long time.”  Donovan also went on to say that “Mexico has a chance to do something special in the World Cup. When they play well, Mexico is one of the best in the world.”

The reputation Mexico have in terms of their youth and style of play is immense, but actually putting it all into practice and perfoming at a major International tournament remains a big problem. Recently, Mexico defeated Brazil in the Olympic final which should further add to their confidence and aura of being capable enough to beat the best when playing well. They’re often the underdogs who come out on top in the end.

Qualification to the World cup finals was a close call as it was nail bitting stuff for the players as well as the fans. Mexico share their group with Cameroon, Croatia and hosts Brazil, who will be the only real threat to them. As far as the other two are concerned, quality wise Mexico have the upper hand over them.

Just like the USA, Mexico too depend wholely on their star performers and experienced veterans. Captain Rafael Marquez will resume his duty of leading his men as he always has. Marquez’ experience along with the ever-present Hector Moreno and Carlos Salcido would do Mexico a world of good at the back. It’s a partnership which is fairly reliable.  Herrera And Carlos Pena are the usual paring in the middle who are the main reason behind the free flowing football Mexico play. However, the real creativity in Mexico’s midfield is mainly seen on the left hand side where Giovanni Dos Santos is up and raring to go with his exquisite skills and tricks. He’s another essential asset on which Mexico rely upon for any kind of creativity.

In attack, Oribe Peralta has been prolific on the international stage. He’s the “Fox in the box” type of a centre forward which every top team needs. Peralta is accompanied by another big name striker and a goal machine in Javier Hernandez who also shares similar instincts to that of Peralta. We all know that if anyone can get a goal out of nothing, Chicarito can.

Mexico are a team who can pull off shock results and surprises with the football they play. They last reached the Quarters in 1986, which seems like ages ago. It’s about time they live up to the expectation of their fans and finally prove their mettle in Brazil.
