The Serbian has made his much-anticipated return to the Bridge
Now,it's official-Chelsea have signed their very own former midfielder Nemanja Matic from Portuguese giants SL Benfica.
Although, the move was in sight for many but this confirms the fact that outcast Kevin de Bruyne is set to leave Chelsea.Matic,26,had already proclaimed that he's looking forward to a move back to his former club and just when we thought that he may go some other way,the much-expected move materialized. The move is believed to be in the region of €25 million and Matic looked overwhelmed on penning a five and a half year deal.
Chelsea have hugely bolstered their chances of winning the title this season and Matic had become a key figure of Jorge Jesus' side who have already been knocked out of the Champions League. He has proved his strong character by showing his mettle and undoubted midfield abilities at the Portuguese club. The 26 year Serbian successfully passed a medical in London and once the International clearance arrives,he'll be set to play in Chelsea's game featuring Manchester United.
Not only Kevin De Bruyne, but Michael Essien's position has also fallen into jeopardy on the arrival of ace. Both of them have fallen down the pecking order since the growth in prominence of other fellow team-mates.The 25€ million move highlights how efficient Mourinho has been in attracting talents from around the world and how effective he has been in outstaging other rival clubs.
