Oviedo's late strike breaks the jinx

Bryan Oviedo's late winner adds to United's woes

The man in the middle

A late goal from Bryan Oviedo ensured Manchester United manager David Moyes endured a painful first meeting with his former club on Wednesday evening. For the first time in 21 years, Everton claimed a win at Old Trafford, a hard-fought 1-0 victory. The 23 year old Costa Rican, who replaced Everton's first choice left back Leighton Baines, who was left out due to a broken toe, ensured that United don't carry on the 21 year old tradition.

The game was ,as I told open and end to end.United hit the woodwork twice ,once through Rooney's deflected shot and the second, through Danny Welbeck who couldn't put away a free header which was a Patrice Evra rebound.David Moyes can have some real complaints regarding this demoralizing performance, after drawing 2-2 at White Hart Lane on Sunday. The contest remained even throughout but if the chances could've been taken,it would have been a different issue altogether.

Romelu Lukaku once again, showed how powerful he is and often made Vidic look like an amateur centre half. One flaw in the selection was that Danny Welbeck, who generally operates as a forward, was playing as a left midfielder. This meant that he would drift down the middle towards the Centre Forward's position and in this process, would expose a large amount of space down the left. And this space was very well used up and exploited by Everton right back Seamus Coleman and winger Kevin Mirallas.

Everton created more openings with more flair in the final third but United once again, lacked that flair. The game seemed to be opening up late in the game and Everton looked very comfortable indeed up front but United survived a Kevin Mirallas free-kick which smacked the bar but then the talking point came. Lukaku held up the ball inside the box before turning and firing a cross that was deflected perfectly to the far post where Oviedo was waiting to fire a low shot through De Gea’s legs.

As of now,United are 12 points behind top-toppers Arsenal, who won elsewhere and now the Red Devils have got a tough job on their hands.Chelsea and Manchester City, both won their respective fixtures and kept the pressure on Arsenal.
It's gonna be a tough game home to Newcastle next and it will be a must win predicament at Old Trafford yet again.
