The Unexpected : Ronaldinho
After a long roll-call of victories and trophies, followed by an extended honeymoon period, a shock defeat in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2013 against Raja Casablanca brought Atletico Miniero down to earth with a bump. Nobody from the Brazilian team imagined they would be making such an early exit from the competition.
Ronalhinho -
"Upon leaving the Marrakech stadium, the joy and optimism that has been the hallmark of Atletico in recent years was replaced with profound disappointment. Even the senior players were unable to hide their disillusionment. “We didn’t have much to say and perhaps it was just as well".
"Our heads were hot and we were really down. We were expecting a tough match, and it was an entertaining, open game, with lots of goal-scoring opportunities for both sides. They were lucky enough to finish their chances.”
Former World Player of the Year Ronaldinho curled in a free kick but was unable to prevent the Brazilians from sliding to an astonishing defeat against Raja, who were seen as no-hopers after firing coach Mohamed Fakhir one week before the tournament.
Raja, who is actually a mediocre team with young and inexperienced players will get a chance to add souvenirs as they' will face the European Champions - Bayern Munich in the Saturday's final at Marrakech.
Raja Casablanca's players claimed that it was the most important win for their side in the season while on the other hand Ronaldinho and his team-mates said that they were ashamed.
Raja Casablanca players took off Ronaldinho's boots as a souvenir after the match and as a mark of respect.
