Best possible UCL Round of 16 matches

What matches can the Round of 16  possibly give us?

The Group stage round concluded yesterday

The "night of tragedies" concluded emphatically yesterday and now we know, which teams are eligible to play the Round of 16.

Unlucky Napoli were dumped out of the competition,as Dortmund edged out Marseille 2-1 while Ac Milan were held but they still managed to qualify for the Round of 16.FC Schalke breezed past FC Basel, who looked by far the favorites to qualify but their fortunes thought otherwise.

Manchester United top Group A ,after they successfully edged past Shakhtar Donetsk, who  fell to the 3rd spot ,thanks to United.Bayer Leverkusen registered a 1-0 victory at the Anoeta which took them to the 2nd place in Group A and also helped them scrape through into the next round.

Real Madrid had bragging rights in Group B,while favorites Juventus were beaten by Turkish giants Galatasaray and were coerced to be knocked out in the early stages. The 1-0 loss to Gala meant that they fell to the 3rd spot(followed by FC Copenhagen ),while Galatasaray booked their berth in  the next round.

Paris Saint Germain waltzed to the first place in Group C despite of losing to Benfica, who were too unlucky not to qualify for the Round of 16.The permutation said that if Olympiakos win by a 2 goal cushion against Anderlecht, then the Greek giants will advance. But,the game at Piraeus dragged on till the 95th minute when Olympiakos finally scored to obtain a 2 goal lead and kick Benfica out of the competition.

Bayern barely managed to Group D on goal difference despite of losing 3-2 to Manchester City in Munich. If City could've scored another goal, they could've topped their group but the couldn't grab one.

Chelsea and Schalke booked their places after 2 defeats were unable to prevent Chelsea claim the top spot.Schalke made their way into the next round after comfortably overcoming Basel 2-0 yesterday.

The group of death truly lived up to its name for once: Valiant Napoli were eliminated despite beating Arsenal in their final fixture due to an inferior head-to-head goal difference behind the Gunners and Borussia Dortmund in Group F, who were all sat on 12 points.

Higuain is distraught after his and Callejon's goals weren't enough

Atletico Madrid comfortably qualified for the last 16 on their return to the elite European stage, but Zenit St Petersburg can count their lucky stars that they went through after losing their final game of Group G to bottom-placed Austria Vienna.

And finally, Barcelona carved their name in first place in Group H thanks to a Neymar-inspired victory over Celtic on Wednesday, while AC Milan scraped through with 10 men in their last game of the stage at home to a dominant Ajax, after a 0-0 draw

Now,lets take a look at what teams can our British sides take on-

Manchester United - Galatasaray,Olympiacos,FC Schalke,Zenit,AC Milan
Arsenal-Real Madrid,PSG,Bayern Munich,Atletico Madrid,Barcelona
Chelsea-Leverkusen,Galatasaray,Olympiacos,Zenit,AC Milan
Manchester City-Real Madrid,PSG,Dortmund,Barcelona,Atletico Madrid

Interestingly, the last 16 this season contains 10 sides which also made the knockout stage in the 2012-13 campaign.
The above data informs you about a lot of things.Arsenal and Manchester City, after finishing 2nd in their respective groups are set to face a huge club in the Round of 16 and the rival fans will certainly look forward to their draw. While United and Chelsea will face a relatively easy task in the next round as they will face the runner-ups of other groups

The Round of 16 draw will take place on Monday (16th December) and the drawn out games will be played in February.
